Nach sieben Produktvorstellungen auf dem kürzlich abgehaltenen 3GSM-WorldCongress in Cannes, kündigt der koreanische Hersteller Samsung (Halle 26, Stand D6 auf der CeBIT drei weitere Handy-Modelle an. Die Modelle SGH-Z700 und SGH-D600 folgen mit integrierten Megapixel-Kameras der Multimedia-Linie unter den Handys, während das SGH-i300 als Musik-Smartphone mit üppiger Speicherkapazität auftrumpft.
Das SGH-Z700 bietet eine 3,0-Megapixel-Kamera, die sich wie eine normale Digitalkamera bedienen lässt. Neben Fotos lassen sich auch Video-Clips aufnehmen und auf Memory-Kärtchen im Format TransFlash speichern. Auch anspruchsvolle UMTS-Features wie Video-Telefonie, Video-Streaming und Video-Messaging sind dem Vernehmen nach möglich. Dafür bringt das Z700 die Video-Codecs MPEG4 und H.263 mit. Das TFT-Display stellt bis zu 262.144 Farben dar und besteht aus 240 × 320 Pixeln (QVGA-Auflösung). Das zusätzliche, außen angebrachte OLED-Display stellt auf 96 × 96 Pixeln bis zu 65.536 Farben dar.
Im Multimedia-Bereich lockt der 125 Gramm schwere Handschmeichler mit Stereo-Lautsprechern, digital verstärktem 3D-Sound, polyphonen Klingeltönen und einem Musik-Player, der Songs in den Formaten MP3, AAC und AAC+ wiedergibt. Mit PCs oder Peripheriegeräten kommuniziert das Handy via Bluetooth, Infrarot oder USB. Schnappschüsse lassen sich ohne PC via PictBridge-Verfahren zum Drucker senden.
Das 99 Gramm schwere SGH-D600 eignet sich nicht für UMTS, sondern nur für GSM-Netze, die in 900-, 1800- und 1900-MHz-Bändern funken. Es hat ansonsten eine dem Z700 vergleichbare Ausstattung. Beispielsweise sind ebenfalls Stereo-Lautsprecher eingebaut und die Codes MPEG4 und H.263 für Video sowie MP3, AAC und AAC+ für Audio implementiert, daneben auch das QVGA-Display, ein TransFlash-Steckplatz sowie Bluetooth, USB und PictBridge. Ein Zweitdisplay hat das D600 nicht und der Kamera-Sensor besteht aus "nur" 2 Megapixeln. Mit der Funktion Video Caller ID lässt sich beim D600 ein Video-Clip einer Rufnummer des Telefonbuchs zuordnen -- geht ein Anruf mit der ausgewählten Rufnummer ein, spielt das D600 das Filmchen ab.
Das SGH-i300 tritt mit den etablierten MP3-Playern in Konkurrenz, die Mini-Festplatten als Speichermedium nutzen. Es hat als erstes Mobiltelefon 3 GByte Festplattenspeicher für bis zu 1000 Musikdateien. Es spielt Musik in den Formaten MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+ und Ogg-Vorbis ab.
Bereits 2004 stellte Samsung ein erstes Musik-Handy mit Festplattenspeicher vor, aber mit "nur" 1,5 GByte Kapazität. Das i300 lässt sich dank Plug&Play-Technik und USB-Anschluss auch als mobiles Festplattenlaufwerk zum Austausch von Dateien mit einem PC verwenden. Die Musik-Auswahl erfolgt über einen Jog-Dial, die Wiedergabe über Stereo-Lautsprecher im 3D-Sound.
Weitere Merkmale des SGH-i300 sind Windows Mobile OS, Tri-Band-GSM-Funk für 900, 1800 und 1900 MHz, TFT-Farbdisplay mit QVGA-Auflösung, eine 1,3-Megapixel-Kamera, Bluetooth, ein Steckplatz für TransFlash-Speichermedien sowie 160 Gramm Gewicht.

I have an admission to make: having seen the expected release dates of more than a few GSM versions of Samsung smartphones and communicators slip into oblivion, I don't really expect much in that department from the Korean handset maker and CDMA specialist. Still, I suffer from incurable technolust, and as such it's hard keeping from salivating openly as I strain to stroll through Samsung's stand here at CeBIT in a calm and controlled manner.
Temptations are everywhere, but every few meters there's one that stands out - such as the Samsung SGH-i750. Having heard nary a word of this device, you can imagine my surprise as I unexpectedly stumble across it, only to find myself freeze like your average rabbit caught in a pair of headlights. There is is, a GSM version of the i730 announced for the U.S. market complete with 900/1800/1900 MHz bands, GPRS and even EDGE.
Apart from its use of GSM as opposed to CDMA, the i750 is virtually identical to the i730, and as such is powered by Windows Mobile 2003 SE for Pocket PC, and comes equipped with 128 MB of Flash memory and 64 MB of RAM - the latter being a tad on the skimpy side, particularly if you're a power user. The screen is a 2.8", 65K colour affair with QVGA resolution, and, although bright, appeared a tad milky when compared with the screens of surrounding Samsung devices.
Unlike the i730, the i750 doesn't boast a camera, however instead comes with a full compliement of wireless technologies including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi - the latter of which is is absent in the i730. There's also the opportunity to expand memory by means of the proprietary TransFlash expansion format, which I'll go on record saying is a crap choice given the proliferance of support for the SD based card formats popular in other Windows Mobile device.
Still, there are quite a few other positive traits that contribute to raising the overall impression of the SGH-i750. One of these is the integrated QWERTY thumbboard, which, although not comparable in usability to that devices such as palmOne's line of Treo communicators, is fully sufficient as a handwriting recognition or virtual keyoard replacement. Then there's the ability to switch to landscape mode rapidly, as well as support for streaming content in WMV, WMA, MP3, ASF and 3GP formats, as well as the ability to output video to a TV.
Good old Infrared is also in place, and although usability is limited the SGH-i750 is also equipped with a pair of SRS WOW-enabled stereo speakers. And, as if that wasn't enough, voice commands are also in place, as is support for T9 predictive text input - something of an odd inclusion, given the presence of thumbboard. What the heck; the more, the merrier, right? Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some drooling to attend to.

Despite Samsung's reputation for innovating in the higher end of the spectrum, the manufacturer hasn't gained its high ranking on worldwide sales charts merely thanks to devices so exlusive that you either can't get them outside Korea or at all afford them. The SGH-E730 is an excellent example of how Samsung excels at creating handsets with just enough high-end features for most everyone to be interested - and a quick glance reveals a worthy successor to other models in the SGH-E700 series.
Retaining the curvaceous looks of models of yore (well, current, to be honest) such as the SGH-E700, the SGH-E730 will be the most advanced of two new models to hit the market in the second quarter of this year. The SGH-E720 will be a dead ringer for the SGH-E730, but will lack the integrated FM radio of the latter. Apart from that, the feature set and visual styling are virtually identical.
Equipped with 88 MB of internal memory, the tri-band GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 MHz Samsung SGH-E730 boasts an MP3/AAC/AAC+ player and should be able to store 15-20 songs for playback. As technologically impressive as this is, I'll once again reserve the right to rear my ugly head and point out that given the minute size of this phone, battery life will quickly go downhill. Samsung gets points for placing dedicated music control keys just below the adequately sized external display, however.
Speaking of size, the SGH-E730 is just simply bloody small. Weighing 90 g, it measures 90 x 45 x 23 mm and could easily be mistaken for your average bar of, er, silver soap. As we've grown accustomed to from Samsung, the internal 262K colour TFT display is outright blindingly superb. What's more, the FPS displayed when used as a viewfinder for the integrated 1 Megapixel camera is outright astonishing, and there's likely a direct connection here between this and the superbly snappy user interface.
Another area in which the SGH-E730 shines despite its small size is audio, and with support for MP3 ringtones it really does groove. Other highlights include Bluetooth (hallelujah), WAP 2.0 and J2ME MIDP 2.0. Oh, and did I mention the camera has a Flash and 4x digital zoom?
I'm afraid I have no idea whatsoever what it's going to cost, but come April the Samsung SGH-E720 will hit shelves; as for the SGH-E730, which I've been talking about for the last few paragraphs, it'll be out in May if all goes well.

Nachdem wir gestern bereits das von Samsung entwickelte erste Handy mit einer integrierten 7-Megapixel-Kamera präsentiert haben, ist Samsung nun der nach eigenen Angaben erste Anbieter, der einem UMTS-Handy eine integrierte 3-Megapixel-Kamera mit achtfachem Digitalzoom spendiert. Es wird als Klapphandy auf den Markt kommen, doch wer glaubt, dass sich das Display einfach nur auf- und zuklappen lässt, der irrt. Vielmehr ist es mit einem innovativen Drehmechanismus ausgestattet und gibt auf diese Weise die Möglichkeit, dass sich das Display um die eigene Achse drehen lässt. Bei einer Auflösung von 240 mal 320 Pixeln lassen sich auf dem TFT-Bildschirm 262.144 Farben darstellen. Das 96 mal 96 Pixel kleine Außendisplay, welches über eingehende Anrufe informiert, kann immerhin 65.536 Farben darstellen.

Natürlich erlaubt die integrierte Kamera nicht nur die Aufnahme von Fotos, sondern auch das Drehen von Videos. Auf Wunsch können Fotos per Bluetooth direkt an entsprechend ausgerüstete Drucker gesendet und ausgedruckt werden. Auch Infrarot- und USB-Unterstützung sind gegeben.

Für den Entertainment-Faktor sorgt ein integrierter MP3-Player sowie Stereo-Lautsprecher. Auch auf einen E-Mail-Client sowie eine 3D-Grafikoptinierung muss nicht verzichtet werden. Unklar ist noch, wann das neue Meisterstück aus Südkorea in Deutschland auf den Markt kommen wird. Auch einen Preis für das 96 mal 48 mal 27 Millimeter kleine und 125 Gramm schwere Handy nannte Samsung noch nicht.
